Raj
Ghat, site of the cremation of Mahatma Gandhi
is one of the most visited sites in Delhi.
It consists of a simple square black marble-platform,
which stands on the spot where Mahatma Gandhi
was cremated. Nearby, there are sites incineration
Jawaharlal Nehru - the first Prime Minister
of India, Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi,
Rajiv Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Raj Ghat is located south
of Fort Rouge and is very calm. The black
marble tomb is inscribed with the words
'Hey Ram! 'the last words that were uttered
by Mahatma Gandhi, as he fell after being
shot by Nathuram Godse. The entire structure
Samadhi reflects the simple and nature-loving
personality of the great leader. The cenotaph
is surrounded by earth that protect it from
flooding of the Yamuna. These walls have
resulted in the space of the memorial being
converted into a garden.
It is customary to circumambulate
the tomb three times. The powerful spiritual
aura of the place a touch 's heart. This
sanctuary has a national eternal flame and
walls of sandstone herewith are enrolled
in various passages written by Gandhi. The
whole area of Rajghat is surrounded by trees
and here we can see some of the more exotic
shrubs in the country. The greenery is what
gives such a serene atmosphere in Samadhi.
The affairs of the Rajghat are managed by
an autonomous body.
It is known as Rajghat
Samadhi Committee and was created by an
Act of Parliament in 1951. You can also
visit the National Museum of Gandhi in the
area, which houses a collection of rare
photographs and anecdotes related to Gandhi.
Vijay Ghat is the memorial of Prime Minister
Lal Bhadur Shastri, while Indira Gandhi
was cremated in Shakti Sthal. Rajeev Gandhi
followed his mother 's footsteps and was
the most beloved Prime Minister of India,
where he was killed in a terrorist attack.
He was cremated at Veer Bhoomi.
