Jim Corbett National Park
is one of the most popular protected areas
of India. Located in the state of Uttaranchal,
at the foot of the Himalayas, the national
park has its inception dating back to the
year 1936. Meanwhile, Jim Corbett Hailey
used to be known as the National Park. Then,
with India's independence, its name was
changed in Ramganga National Park. Jim Corbett
Wildlife Sanctuary, the name by which we
know today of protected areas, was given,
but only in the year 1956.
With the launch of Project
Tiger, Jim Corbett National Park has become
one of the first areas to be declared as
a tiger reserve. It was in 1973 he received
the status of a tiger reserve. One of the
main reasons is that the national park supports
a wide variety of vegetation. Jim Corbett
Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over an area
of 1200 sq km, including 520.82 sq. km has
been assigned to the central area. The best
way to visit the sanctuary and explore its
rich wildlife is mid-November to mid-June.
Flora
As we have said before, Jim Corbett National
Park boasts a wide variety and fauna. Its
topography is made up of marshy depressions
transitional hilly areas, high plateaus
and canyons. 110 species of trees, 51 species
of shrubs, and over 33 species of bamboo
and grass are its vegetation. On the top,
you can find bakli, surgery, gurail trees
and bamboo, while the lower reaches are
made of Sal trees. Regarding the middle
reaches, there are plenty of shisham and
Khair trees.
The fauna
Undoubtedly, the most popular wildlife attraction
is the Jim Corbett Wildlife Sanctuary of
the Royal Bengal Tiger. However, you can
also get to see elephants, deer, leopards,
Jungle Cats, Cats fishing, wild dogs, Palm
Civets the Himalayas, Indian Gray Mongoose,
common otters, Black-naped Hare, porcupines
and rhesus monkeys, langur inside its premises.
If you like Sloth bears, less areas are
your best bet. For the Himalayan black bear,
you should go to the upper regions.
Birds and reptiles
Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve is home to a wide
variety of birds, too. You can find over
580 species of birds living in the park.
Some of the most popular species of birds
are found here parakeets, flycatchers, Babblers,
Cuckoos, Robins, Bulbuls, Indian Pied Hornbills,
Great Pied Hornbills, warblers, finches,
etc. migratory bids also find a sanctuary
much more favorable to . Last but not least,
you can attempt to locate and Gharials Rogue
Crocodiles, along the shore of the river
Ramganga in the park.
Accommodation
Since Jim Corbett National Park is among
the most visited protected areas of India,
the government has ensured that there are
many possibilities for accommodation for
tourists. Managed by the Government and
private hotels, inns, rest homes and log
boxes are readily available for visitors
in and around the national park.
