Located
east of Parliament in New Delhi, the Cathedral
Church of the Redemption was built in eight
years and was completed in the year 1935.
It was designed by architect, Henry Medd.
Lord Irwin, who was then viceroy, was so
impressed by her great curved arches and
domes subtle it came to be known as "viceroy
's Church '. Later When the viceroy escaped
a near fatal accident in 1929, when they
tried to blow up the train, he presented
the image at the east end of money and a
cross to the church as a gesture of thank
God for saving his life.
The plain line outside
the church are in contrast with the high
rounded arches inside. The spiritual aura
of the church is strengthened by the light
through its windows and a growing group
of angels that look down the curve of the
roof above the altar. Regular Mass is held
at the Cathedral Church of Redemption, on
Sunday morning. Beyond that, the cathedral
also hosts concerts on religious festivals
such as Christmas and Easter. It also maintains
a choir, called the capital Minstrels. You
can take these concerts of choral music
and Carol singing religious occasions and
festivals.
